The Hospital (WH) Critical Care Volunteer works in the Center where the Hospital animals reside. You will have the opportunity to help with all types of tasks relating to the care of wildlife while allowing the Hospital to focus on caring for more patients. Â
Primary Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Cleaning and disinfecting enclosures and aquaria
- Washing dishes
- Disinfecting counters
- Prepping food
- Sweeping
- Mopping
- Cleaning smelt tubs
- Newspaper prep
- Other daily cleaning tasks as assigned; Tasks will vary based on currently admitted wildlife
Requirements
- Must be 18 or older
- Must pass a background check
- Must complete volunteer registration and orientation
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must complete 12 hours of Rehabilitation Department (WRD) Shadow or Critter Care (CC) Training to volunteer
- Volunteers are required to commit to 16 hours per month to volunteer in Hospital Critical Care.
- Â 16 hours of Support Shifts are required before being considered to train in the Critter Care (CC) or Rehabilitation Department (WRD)
- Hospital Critical Care is by invitation only
Changing Office Locations:
The HHS Wildlife Center will be changing locations to a new and improved building in 2024. The new location will be 3100 W. Fuqua Street, Houston, TX 77045.Â
