Rehabilitation Department (WRD) Shift

Advanced Shift: The Rehabilitation Department (WRD) Volunteer works in the Center where the rehabilitation animals reside.  You will have the opportunity to help with all types of tasks relating to the rehabilitation of wildlife and promote environmental conservation through the rehabilitation of Texas wildlife. 

Primary Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily feeding and care of rehabilitation animals
  • Cleaning and disinfecting enclosures
  • Washing dishes
  • Disinfecting counters 
  • Prepping food
  • Sweeping
  • Mopping
  • Other daily cleaning tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must pass a background check
  • Must complete volunteer registration and orientation
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must complete 12 hours of Rehabilitation Department (WRD) Shadow Training to volunteer
  • Volunteers are required to commit to 16 hours per month to volunteer in the Rehabilitation Department (WRD).
  •  16 hours of Support Shifts are required before being considered to train in the Rehabilitation Department (WRD)

Changing Office Locations:

The HHS Wildlife Center will be changing locations to a new and improved building in 2024. The new location will be 3100 W. Fuqua Street, Houston, TX 77045.
